Tar Isteach provides support services for all in North Belfast and beyond. We are committed to equality and social justice. We have dedicated ourselves to providing services and assistance in response to issues of poverty, disadvantage, exclusion and isolation. We work at the heart of neighbourhoods grievously affected by decades of multiple deprivations and the legacy of prolonged conflict. We play an important role in community development, promoting peace and conflict transformation and building relationships with people from a broad spectrum of society.

PEACE PLUS
Celebrating Cultures and Diversity
PEACEPLUS Community Empowerment Programme for Political ex-Prisoners.
Purpose:
This is a two year, Belfast-based programme (due to complete in December 2027) funded through the PEACEPLUS Programme and managed by the Special EU Programmes Body and Belfast City Council. Its core aim is to improve the welfare, integration, and prospects of politically motivated ex- prisoners and their families, thereby contributing to community stability and reconciliation.
Key Delivery Areas:
The programme will deliver support across three interconnected strands:
1. Welfare & Well-being: Providing support in opportunities for training in counselling qualifications
Providing support in opportunities for Advice/Welfare training
2. Interactive Engagement: Facilitating dialogue between and within communities, history projects, reminiscence work, and storytelling.
Developing and supporting Men’s/Hen’s sheds initiatives.
3. Practical Initiatives: Offering employability training (e.g., an Employment Academy), advice and advocacy training on issues facing the political ex-prisoner community.
Consortium Approach:
The project is delivered by a consortium of politically motivated ex-prisoner support organisations, led by Coiste na nIarchimí, in partnership with Tar Anall, Tar Isteach, ACT Initiative, and Charter NI. This partnership ensures unparalleled access to, and trust within, the target communities across Belfast.
The project oversight is delivered through the Steering Group represented by all 5 partners who meet monthly to ensure programme delivery across all Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
